Dr. Pompeu Casanovas is Director of Advanced Research, and professor of Philosophy and Sociology of Law at the UAB Law School. He founded the IDT in 2005, and he serviced as its Director until June 2011. He has 20 years of experience conducting research on legal sociology, pragmatics and AI and law. He has been principal investigator of over 50 national, European, and international projects. He has published over 10 books and more than 150 scientific articles in the areas of legal philosophy, legal sociology, and AI & Law. His recent publications concern the development of legal ontologies to implement Semantic Web technologies. He is general co-editor, with Giovanni Sartor, of the Law, Governance and Technology Series (Springer Verlag), and the editor of the research series La razón áurea (Editorial Comares), in Spanish.
Dr. Pompeu Casanovas holds a Doctorate in Philosophy at the UAB, and he has carried out post-doctorate research as Visiting Scholar at the universities of La Sapienza (Rome, 1987), UCSD (California, 1990-91) and Stanford (California, 2000-2001). He has been VS at the University of Bologna (CIRSFID, 2006) and CNR (IRSIG, 2006) as well, and Visiting Professor at Victoria University (Melbourne, 2012).
